Mention American breakfast, and one inevitably thinks of pancakes. Smeared with butter and drizzled with maple syrup, there’s something immensely comforting about fluffy hotcakes.
To satisfy our love for pancakes, several eateries now offer all-day breakfast. We check out their pancakes. How do they stack up against one another?
Cedele by Bakery Depot EDITOR’S PICK!

Price: $9.50++
Rating: 4.5/5
We’ve found the perfect pancakes! Moist, pillowy and gorgeously browned, the hotcakes at Cedele manages to push all the right buttons.
Although these melt-in-the-mouth pancakes feel light, they are satisfyingly hearty. Neither too thick nor too thin, they are the appropriate thickness, too. As Goldilocks would say, these pancakes are just right!
Cedele’s pancakes are served with vanilla butter, maple syrup and a small side of fresh salad. The vanilla in the butter is a nice touch, but the maple syrup is rather forgettable. Although the menu doesn’t list plain pancakes, but you can ask for them like we did. A variety of sweet and savoury pancakes are available (the blueberry and banana versions are great!), but the plain version was divine enough to send us to pancake heaven!
Food For Thought BEST VALUE
8 Queen Street
Opening hours: Mon-Sat: 9am-10pm, Sun: 9am-9pm (pancakes available 9am-5.30pm)
Price: $6.00+

Eggy, slightly charred and drizzled with gula melaka syrup, the pancakes at Food For Thought are indeed one of a kind.
Instead of the usual maple syrup, the use of the Asian gula melaka is a creative twist that works well here. The pancakes have a rather strong eggy taste, but they are deliciously soft and moist. The crispy bits around the edges are very addictive as well!
Besides syrup, the pancakes come with a generous dollop of lightly whipped cream. Our only grouse is that the pancakes come drizzled with syrup. If they serve the gula melaka on the side, we can adjust the amount of syrup we prefer.

Appearances can be deceiving, for the hotcakes at Strictly Pancakes taste a lot better than they look.
Perhaps they don’t look impressive because of their pale outlook. The pancakes would definitely benefit from a nice, brown crust. But the texture is excellent. The pancakes are light and porous, with a lovely melt-in-the-mouth sensation. They are also subtly salty, which provided a nice contrast against the sweet syrup.
We were also impressed with the quality of their maple syrup. Rich and fragrant, they elevated these otherwise average pancakes to greater heights.
2 Keppel Bay Vista, Marina at Keppel Bay
Opening hours: Daily: 9am-12am (pancakes available 9.30am-5pm)
Price: $11.00++
Rating: 3/5

Prive’s trio of neatly stacked pancakes looks almost too pretty to be eaten.
Evenly browned and immaculately round, these elegant-looking pancakes are adorned with honeycomb, an extravagant touch befitting the luxurious surroundings. The pancakes are pleasantly soft and fluffy, but could have been airier and more moist.
In this roundup, these are the most extravagant-priced pancakes. However, as a bonus, you also enjoy a million-dollar view of the marina and its pretty yachts, as well as the soothing breeze of the sea.
26 Evans Road, #01-06 Evans Lodge
Opening hours: Tue-Thu/Sun: 8am-10pm, Fri-Sat: 8am-10pm
Price: $8.00nett
Rating: 2.5/5

For those who eat like a bird, the monster pancakes at Hatched are definitely not for you. Each gargantuan pancake here is about the thickness of three regular-sized pancakes!
To the credit of the chef, the two pancakes were evenly cooked and yet retained their moistness. This is not an easy feat to achieve considering their incredible thickness. The porous texture and slightly yeasty taste of the pancakes hinted at a generous dose of buttermilk in the batter.
Although the pancakes looked fluffy, they were rather rich and filled us up very quickly. There was a drizzle of lemon juice, possibly an attempt to lighten the heaviness of the pancakes. This is one instance where bigger isn’t always better.
