Microbrewery and restaurant Tawandang is packing in the crowds since its opening in Dempsey in July this year.
Tawandang specialises in three main traditional German beers -- Dunkel, Weisen and Lager, with all ingredients imported directly from Germany. Like its two outlets in Thailand, it is managed by a fulltime Bavarian brewster with two decades of experience.
You won't get the ordinary bar grub at Tawandang. The eatery serves up an extensive range of Thai dishes such as Tom Yum Kung in coconut milk ($20), sauteed morning glory ($12) and deep fried seabass with Tawandang signature spicy sauce ($22). The restaurant also whips up a mean pork knuckle ($25) - deep fried to perfection to create a crispy crackling skin, while maintaining the tenderness of the meat, which is well marinated with a variety of spices. Due to its larger servings, the restaurant is very popular with families on weekends.
The spacious restaurant boasts a spacious indoor and alfresco dining area, which can hold up to 400 diners. Those who enjoy having their dinner or beer in a lively atmosphere will enjoy the live band, which plays nightly.
